Techno was born out of the fusion between German electro-pop and American house music in the 80’s.
Like its predecessors, techno gave rise to a multitude of popular modern electronic music such as EDM and dubstep.
Although techno is a very diverse genre with many different influences, for the most part, techno is tailored to DJ sets and thus, most techno tracks are instrumentals.
Techno music is characterized by its frequent use of synths, thumping four-on-the-floor kicks, trance-inducing repetition, high energy tempo ranging from 120-150bpm, and off-beat hi-hats.
These aspects all come together to form the unique rhythm that defines techno music.

As is typical with most electronic music, techno music typically falls in the minor scale vs the major.
The minor scale creates the much needed tension and complexity in sound that helps to create a danceable tune.

Additionally, with 7th or 9th chords in the minor scale, the sound becomes extremely deep and complex with many different possible voicings.
